Study of polysaccharides of alginophyte macroalgae: characterization and dosage of alginates

Since their discovery, the interest in alginates, derived from brown algae (alginophytes), has continued to increase, leading to industrialization and global marketing. Alginates are the subject of much research, but the vast majority focuses on the molecular characterization and rheological properties of finished products. The objective of this work was to valorize two brown marine algae from the Atlantic coast of Morocco: Laminaria digitata and Fucus vesiculosus. Thanks to this comparative study, we were able to demonstrate that the alginate content does not have the same value in the two algae. Alginate contents differ from one species to another, they vary from 10 to 45% (in dry mass) depending on the species considered, its physiological state, the time of year and the age of the foot, etc. For the work available on the extraction process, the approach generally consists of making improvements at each stage of the existing process to obtain gains, particularly in terms of yield and quality of the final product.
