Red or natural henna is a very popular cosmetic preparation used in Libya as part of many traditions. Black henna is another type of cosmetic products and it may contain paraphenylenediamine (PPD), it is chemical substance which can stain the skin black quickly, but can cause toxic reactions such as severe allergic reactions . the aim of our study to detect the level of PPD in various cosmetic preparations. Method: ten samples were collected from different sites in Benghazi city during august 2022 and they analyzed quantivily and qualititvilty for detection PPD level in the sample using Gas chromatography–mass spectrometer (GC-MS). Results: Seven samples were containing PPD with a large variations in their abundance (from 3322 to 37.04 %) and the rest three samples were free from PPD. The level of PPD in six (6) samples were higher than allowed maximum concentration of PPD in hair dyes as specified by European Union EU, which is 6.0% however the EU banned the use of PPD directly on the skin. Conclusion: The presence of PPD in black henna will definitely lead to many subsequent problems such as allergic skin reactions and may cause toxicity to organs such as the heart and kidneys and may lead to death if the patient is not treated quickly.

Energy drinks (EDs) are a type of caffeinated beverages that are marketed to rising energy, the performance of athletes and mental concentration. Caffeine is the main ingredient in all energy drinks. A questionnaire was carried out on 200 medical students in Benghazi University containing: the use of energy drink, reasons for use, knowledge about content and effect, benefits and side effects. In this study, EDs were consumed by 65% of students and the males were drinking them two times more than females. Most students knew about the contents of EDs and their effects on the body (59% and 65.0% respectively). The consumers were drinks the energy drinks to increase their mental activities for example, before the examinations (46.88%) and they were feeling well after the EDs drinking (70.31%). Most of the students consume the EDs with other caffeine-containing beverages, for instance, coffee and tea, and this habit may increase the incidence of caffeine toxicity. This study concludes that a significant proportion of students use EDs, especially in males. The common reason for using the EDs was to increase mental performance. The questioned students were conscious the adverse effects and health hazard of the energy drinks. Most of the students use EDs with other caffeine-containing soft drinks such as coffee and tea which potentially increase risk of caffeine overdose and toxicity Keywords: Energy drinks, caffeine, health risks, students.

Cancer-related pain (CRP) is a major problem that directly affects the patient life with a potential negative impact on its quality and their caregivers. The evaluation of pain severity and the adequacy of prescribed analgesics are the main step during the treatment of CRP. The main aim of our study was conducted to evaluate the adequacy of cancer-related pain medication in department of oncology of Benghazi Medical Center (BMC) using pain management index (PMI). This study was conducted at 2018.The data concerning the severity of pain were collected by using Brief Pain Inventory (BPI). The results showed that the most common patients were female) 78.6%) and 28.4% were males, whereas women used medication more adequately than men. Based on PMI scale, (96%) received -adequate pain management and (3.87%) were undertreated patients. 54% of the patients didn’t need any medications for pain and 35.9% were managed with non-opioid analgesic and 8.84% were on weak opioids. This study suggests that the PMI should be used routinely to evaluate pain severity, and analgesics should be prescribed equitably without discrimination with regard to gender and socioeconomic status of patients.
