Molluscicidal activity of calcium borate nanoparticles with kodom ball-flower structure on hematological, histological and biochemical parameters of Eobania vermiculata snails

Calcium borate nanoparticles (CB-NPs) with Kodom Ball-flower structure were synthesized via the sol-gel method and applied as an alternative molluscicide against Eobania vermiculata. The aggregated nano-sheets (thickness, 54 nm) of CB-NPs enhanced the molluscicidal effects (LC50 = 175.3 mg/l) compared with the recommended molluscicide metaldehyde (Gastrotox® E 5% G) (LC50 = 60.5 mg/l). Further, exposure to LC50 of CB-NPs or metaldehyde (Gastrotox® E 5% G) results in remarkable toxic effects not only on biochemical parameters but on histological alterations as well. Thus, CB-NPs provided a promising alternative for managing land snail pests (Eobania vermiculata) in the agricultural fields.
